Frank Westerfield years gone by
My family has Colorado roots that go back more than 100 years. My three children are 4th generation Coloradoans. Although none of them have taken up the repair business, they have all been involved from taking in money, cleaning up, shining shoes, and letting customers know what a sweetheart their dad is. They’ve learned a strong independent work ethic that I like to believe I instilled in them. I’m so very proud of them and grateful that we continue to thrive from a repair business that has allowed our family to grow and provide fine family craftsmanship for over 30 years.

- Huntington Beach ,   California - August, summer of 1972

I decided to start a business selling items I did as a hobby. Imagine…plants, pottery, used Levis, macramé, candles, Peasant shoes, sandals, hand painted belts, purses, sun visors, leather thongs (now known as flip flops), and leather surf leashes.

As soon as my business started thriving, people would bring items back asking me to repair what I had made for them.

AHHH…THE REPAIR BUSINESS!

- Trinidad , Colorado

My first exclusive shoe repair shop

-La Junta, Colorado

I worked as a counselor at the Colorado Boys’ Ranch hoping to set up a shoe repair program. Then I was off to Denver .

-Downtown Denver- December 1976

I inked a deal with Al Dardano to buy “Savoy Shoe Repair,” the business his father started in the 1930’s. I was at the 18 th and Welton Street location more than 17 years before it was turned into a parking lot. This caused me to move to Fort Collins , Colorado for two years before returning to Downtown.

-Downtown Denver- Summer 1996

Back in Downtown and in the exciting LoDo area of Writer Square which has had a shoe cobbler since the Square opened over 20 years ago.

Westerfield Cobblers is still running strong and providing quality family craftsmanship to generations of downtown workers, residents, and visitors…stop in, I’ll see you then!

Later,

Frank Westerfield
